Innovative Techniques

I contributed few entirely new techniques to surgical practice. These included:

XRD procedure in pilonidal sinus: I started doing this in 1995. Publish it in the association's meeting in Jersey in 1998.

Bridge suspension in haemorrhoidectomy: This was an idea that occurred to me in 1994, a year after Longo introduced the concept of lifting prolapsed haemorrhoidal cushions (rather than excising them) - I was not aware of Longo's work at the time-. I published this in Egypt in 1997 as an adjunct to excisional haemorrhoidectomy (& sort of a poor man's alternative to PPH)

Tailored lateral sphincterotomy: Unfortunately, I never came around to publishing this in time to claim international credit for it. The idea occurred to me back in 1991, when I was working for Hilary Thompson in Stevenage. I used it ever since that time and made it known to my colleagues in the department of surgery at Ain Shams university in Cairo, but never publish it (before others did).

Collar mesh repair in parastomal hernias: I also call this Inverted Mexican hat mesh repair or the upside sombrero . Following the higher than expected recurrence rates following mesh repairs of parastomal hernias, I came up with this idea in 2004

The hook test & classification of rectal prolapse: Not really an operative technique, but nevertheless useful concept (see research)

These techniques are the normal in my practice & that of many of the surgeons who trained under me.
